Connect smart locks for automatic guest access codes, remote control, and device monitoring across your portfolio.

Smart Lock Integrations

Vanio connects with your smart locks to automatically manage guest access codes, monitor device health, and give you remote control over your properties. Every guest gets a unique code that activates exactly when they check in and deactivates when they check out — no manual code management required.

Getting Started

Connect Your Lock Provider

  1. Go to Apps > IoT
  2. Click Connect Provider in the top right
  3. Choose your lock brand from the list
  4. Sign in with your lock provider account (August, Yale, Schlage, etc.)
  5. Select which locks to sync with Vanio

  1. Find your lock in the device list
  2. Click Map to listing next to the device name
  3. Select the property where this lock is installed
  4. Click Save

How It Works

Automatic Access Codes

When a guest books your property:

  • Unique code generated — Each reservation gets its own 4-8 digit access code
  • Scheduled activation — Code becomes active at check-in time, expires at checkout
  • Guest notification — Access instructions are automatically sent before arrival
  • Real-time sync — Codes are pushed to your lock within minutes

You'll see all active codes in Apps > IoT > [Device Name] > Access Codes.

Device Monitoring

Vanio continuously monitors your locks for:

  • Connection status — Online/offline alerts
  • Battery levels — Low battery warnings (typically 20% threshold)
  • Lock activity — Who accessed when, successful unlocks, failed attempts
  • Device health — Connection quality and responsiveness

Key Features

  • Multi-brand support — Works with Yale, August, Schlage, Kwikset, and more
  • Remote lock/unlock — Control your locks from anywhere through the dashboard
  • Staff access codes — Create permanent codes for cleaners and maintenance
  • Activity logging — Complete history of lock events with guest details
  • Troubleshooting assist — AI helps guests with lock issues using real-time device data
  • Custom code lengths — Set 4-6 digit codes based on your preference

Beyond Smart Locks

Vanio also connects:

  • Noise sensors (Minut, NoiseAware) — Monitor sound levels with automated guest notifications
  • Smart thermostats (ecobee, Honeywell) — Manage climate settings between stays
  • Air quality monitors — Track indoor air quality across your portfolio

Lock Control & Management

Remote Control

From any device page:

  1. Click the device name to open details
  2. Use Lock or Unlock buttons for immediate control
  3. View real-time lock status (locked/unlocked, online/offline)
  4. Check battery level and connection health

Managing Access Codes

View active codes:

  1. Go to Apps > IoT
  2. Click your lock device
  3. Switch to Access Codes tab

You'll see:

  • Guest codes (linked to specific reservations)
  • Staff codes (permanent access for your team)
  • Code status (active, expired, failed)
  • Usage history

Create manual codes:

  1. Click Add Code in the access codes section
  2. Enter a name (e.g., "Cleaning Service")
  3. Set start/end dates or make it permanent
  4. Optionally specify a custom code

Tips & Best Practices

  • Test new locks — Generate a test code and verify it works before the first guest
  • Monitor battery levels — Replace batteries when they hit 20% to avoid lockouts
  • Keep firmware updated — Check your lock manufacturer's app for firmware updates
  • Have backup access — Always maintain a physical key or master code as backup
  • Check connectivity — Locks need strong Wi-Fi to receive new codes reliably
  • Clean the keypad — Regularly clean number buttons to prevent wear patterns that reveal codes

Common Questions

What happens if my lock goes offline? Vanio will alert you immediately. Most modern locks cache codes locally, so existing codes continue working even offline. New codes won't sync until connectivity is restored.

Can I use custom codes instead of random ones? Yes, you can specify custom codes when creating them manually. However, automatically generated codes are more secure and prevent conflicts across your properties.

How quickly do new codes appear on the lock? Typically within 2-3 minutes for Wi-Fi connected locks. Z-Wave locks may take 5-10 minutes depending on your hub's sync schedule.
