Customize Your Navigation Menu
Hide nav items you don't use and reorder the rest to match your workflow — preferences save automatically and sync across desktop and mobile.
Customize Your Navigation Menu
Your main navigation menu now works the way you do. You can hide items you rarely use to reduce clutter, rearrange the ones you keep to match your daily workflow, and restore everything back to the original layout with a single click. Your preferences save automatically and stay consistent whether you're working on a desktop browser or the mobile app.
Getting Started
Opening the customization dialog takes just a moment from wherever you are in Vanio AI.
-
Look at the top navigation bar. You'll see your main menu items — things like Dashboard, Properties, Calendar, and so on — running along the top of the screen.
-
Find the sliders icon. At the right end of those menu items, there's a small circular button with a sliders icon (⧉). Click it.

-
The Customize Menu dialog opens. You'll see a list of all the navigation items available to you, in their current order.

-
Make your changes — hide items, reorder them, or both (see below).
-
Click Save. Your preferences are applied immediately across desktop and mobile.
On mobile: Open the navigation drawer, then scroll to the bottom of the menu list. You'll find the same sliders icon there. Tap it to open the Customize Menu dialog.
How It Works
Inside the Customize Menu dialog, every navigation item available to your account is listed from top to bottom. Items you've hidden appear slightly faded so you can still see them and bring them back whenever you want.
Hiding an Item
- Each item has an eye icon on its right side. When the eye is green, the item is visible in your menu. When it's grey, the item is hidden.
- Click the eye icon to toggle an item's visibility.
- You can hide as many items as you like — there's no minimum.

Important: Hiding an item only removes it from your navigation menu. You can still reach any hidden page through Settings → Navigation at any time. Nothing is deleted or locked away.
Reordering Items
- Each item has a pair of arrow buttons (▲ ▼) on its left side.
- Click the up arrow to move an item higher in the list (it will appear further to the left on desktop, or higher up on mobile).
- Click the down arrow to move it lower.
- The top of the list in the dialog corresponds to the leftmost position in your desktop nav bar.

Saving Your Changes
- When you're happy with your layout, click the Save button in the bottom-right corner of the dialog. The number next to it (e.g. "5 shown") gives you a quick count of how many items will appear in your menu.
- Your menu updates instantly — no page reload needed.
What Happens Automatically
Your preferences sync across devices. Once you save, your customized menu appears on every device you use — desktop, tablet, and mobile — the next time the page loads.
New menu items are always shown. If Vanio AI adds a new section to the navigation in a future update, it will automatically appear at the end of your menu so you never miss something new. It won't be hidden just because you've customized your menu in the past.
Role and access limits are always respected. The Customize Menu dialog only ever shows items your account already has access to. You can't accidentally add a page you don't have permission to view, and rearranging your menu has no effect on what your team members see.
Key Features
- Hide unused items — Remove sections you don't use from view without losing access to them. Great for keeping your menu focused if you manage a small portfolio or only use certain features.
- Reorder to match your workflow — Put the pages you visit most at the front. If you live in the Calendar, move it first. If Inbox is your home base, put it front and center.
- New items always appear — Future navigation additions show up automatically at the end of your menu, so you're never cut off from new features.
- Reset to default in one click — The Reset to default button (bottom-left of the dialog) instantly removes all your customizations and restores the original menu layout.
- Syncs across desktop and mobile — One set of preferences, consistent everywhere.
- Hidden items stay accessible — Any hidden page is always reachable from Settings, so nothing is ever truly out of reach.
Tips & Best Practices
- Start by hiding, then reorder. Hide the items you know you don't need first — once the list is shorter, it's easier to arrange what's left in the right order.
- Keep at least 2–3 items visible. While you can hide most of the menu, keeping your most-used pages in the nav saves you from hunting through Settings during a busy day.
- Use Reset freely. If you experiment with a layout and don't love it, Reset to default brings everything back instantly. Think of it as an undo for your entire menu.
- Check your mobile layout too. After saving on desktop, open the mobile app or mobile browser to confirm the layout feels right on a smaller screen — the same order applies, but vertical menus can feel different from horizontal ones.
- Property managers with multiple roles: Your menu only shows items your current account role has access to. If your access level changes, the menu updates to match automatically.
Common Questions
If I hide a page, can I still get to it? Yes, always. Hidden items are just removed from the navigation bar — they're not locked or deleted. You can reach any hidden page by going to Settings → Navigation, or by bringing the item back in the Customize Menu dialog at any time.
Will my customizations affect what my team sees? No. Navigation preferences are personal to your account. Each user on your team can set up their own menu independently, and no one's choices affect anyone else's view.
What happens if Vanio AI adds a new page to the menu? New navigation items appear automatically at the end of your menu the next time you log in — even if you've already customized your layout. They're always visible by default, so you won't miss them. If you decide you don't need them, you can hide them from the Customize Menu dialog just like any other item.
