Setting Your Availability

Vanio only offers you work when you're actually free. Setting your availability is the single most important thing you can do to get the right jobs at the right times.

The simple way — text

You can manage availability from any SMS:

• off — block today
• off tomorrow — block tomorrow
• off friday — block the next Friday
• off aug 10-14 — block a date range
• available monday — unblock a day
• hours 8-5 — set today's working hours

Every command is confirmed instantly. No app needed.

The app way

1. Open the Vanio app
2. Tap Availability
3. Set your weekly hours (e.g. Mon–Fri 8am–5pm, Sat 9am–1pm)
4. Tap any day on the calendar to add time off or change hours just for that date

Drag on the calendar to block multi-day periods (vacations, sick leave).

Availability on/off switch

At the top of the Availability screen you'll see a master Availability toggle. When it's on, Vanio uses your schedule to decide which jobs to offer you. When you switch it off, Vanio treats you as unavailable for all auto-assigned work — regardless of what your weekly hours say — until you turn it back on.

Use this switch if you need to pause all new assignments quickly (for example, at the end of a season or while you're dealing with something personal) without deleting your whole schedule.

Your timezone

All hours on the Availability screen are shown in your own timezone, which Vanio sets automatically based on your account. You'll see the timezone displayed next to every time input and on every time-off entry so there's no guesswork.

If your timezone ever looks wrong, tap the timezone field to correct it. Getting this right matters: if you set your hours as 8am–5pm, Vanio treats that as 8am–5pm wherever you are, not wherever a property is.

Weekly schedule

Most people set a baseline weekly schedule once and adjust from there. Under Weekly Hours, pick start and end times for each day of the week. You can set different hours for different days — for example, shorter hours on Saturdays. Days you leave empty mean you don't work that day.

Once saved, Vanio will only offer you jobs that fall within those hours. If auto-assignment can't find a suitable window for a job, your manager will see a note explaining why (for example, "outside working hours") so they always know what happened.

Time off and vacations

Taking a week off? Add a Time Off block with start and end dates. You won't get any offers during that window, and when it ends you're back in rotation automatically.

To add time off in the app:

1. Go to Availability → Time Off
2. Tap Add Time Off
3. Enter a start date and time, an end date and time, and an optional reason
4. Tap Save

You can remove a time-off block at any time by tapping it and choosing Delete. When auto-assignment skips you because of a time-off block, your manager will see "time off" as the reason — so you don't need to explain separately.

Changing hours for one day

Doctor's appointment on Wednesday? Tap Wednesday and set custom hours (e.g. 1pm–5pm only). The change applies just to that date; next Wednesday reverts to your normal schedule.

Marketplace vs assigned work

Availability applies everywhere: jobs your assigned hosts offer you, and jobs you see on the marketplace. If you're off Sundays, you won't see Sunday marketplace jobs either.

Common questions

What if I get sick on a workday? Text off or tap Today → Block. Any unstarted tasks are reassigned automatically.

Can hosts still assign me outside my hours? They'll see a warning if they try, but they can override for emergencies. You'll get a notification and can decline.

Do I still get paid for blocked time? You only get paid for work you actually do. Availability just controls when offers come in.

What does the master toggle do vs. setting days off? The toggle is an instant pause for everything. Setting individual days or time-off blocks is more precise — use those when you know specific dates you can't work, and use the toggle only when you want to stop all assignments at once.

My manager said I showed as "off" when I wasn't — why? Before you save a schedule for the first time, Vanio can't tell whether you're free or not. Save your weekly hours once and your status on the team roster will reflect what you've actually declared.

Keep your availability up to date and Vanio does the rest.
