Setting Up Igloohome Locks
Connect Igloohome directly for truly offline access codes that work without WiFi or a bridge.
Setting Up Igloohome Locks
Igloohome is unique: its locks generate time-based codes entirely offline. No WiFi, no bridge, no hub. Vanio computes a code for each reservation and the lock accepts it based on the time window encoded in the code itself. That makes Igloohome the most reliable option for rural cabins, boats, storage spaces, and anywhere WiFi is unreliable.
Vanio connects to Igloohome directly via the official Igloohome API, so code generation is instant and you never depend on a third-party bridge.
What you'll need
- An Igloohome lock installed and set up in the Igloohome app
- Your Igloohome account email and password
Step 1 — Connect Igloohome
- In Vanio, go to Settings → Integrations.
- Under Smart Locks, click Connect.
- Select Igloohome from the provider list.
- You'll be redirected to Igloohome to sign in.
- Approve the permissions.
- You'll be sent back to Vanio with all your Igloohome locks automatically imported.
That's it. Unlike WiFi locks, there's no pairing, polling, or bridge to worry about.
Step 2 — Assign locks to listings
- Go to Settings → Smart Locks.
- Click a lock.
- Click Assign and pick the listing.
- Save.
One lock can serve multiple listings (shared entry) and one listing can have multiple locks (main door, garage, ski locker).
Why Igloohome works without WiFi
Every Igloohome code is a math puzzle. The lock knows a secret key and the current time. Vanio knows the same secret key. Given a reservation's check-in and checkout, both sides independently compute the same 9-digit code — no network call needed.
This means:
- Guests can arrive any time, even during power cuts. The lock runs on batteries.
- No bridge to maintain, no router to forward ports. Install the lock and walk away.
- Codes work exactly in their window. A code valid from Friday to Monday will refuse to open on Thursday or Tuesday. This is enforced by the lock itself.
Generating codes for guests
Vanio does this automatically. When a reservation is confirmed:
- Vanio computes the duration-based code.
- It schedules the code to be revealed to the guest (default: 24 hours before check-in).
- The guest sees the code in the arrival message, the guest portal, and the Vanio guest app.
- After checkout, the code simply stops working on its own. Nothing to delete.
You can override the timing per listing under Listings → [your listing] → Access.
Staff access
Cleaners, owners, and maintenance get their own duration codes.
- Go to Settings → Team.
- Click a team member.
- Click Grant lock access.
- Pick a window — common options are "Any time this week", "Only during assigned tasks", or "Permanent".
- The staff member sees their code in the Vanio mobile app or receives it by SMS.
When you assign a cleaning task, Vanio automatically issues a short-window code that only works during the scheduled task, then stops.
Battery monitoring
Igloohome locks report battery status each time you interact with them through the app. Vanio surfaces this in two places.
- Settings → Smart Locks shows a battery icon and percentage next to each lock.
- When a lock drops below 20%, Vanio creates a maintenance task automatically and notifies your team. Batteries typically last 9 to 12 months under normal vacation-rental use.
Replace batteries before they die — a dead Igloohome lock still opens with the physical override key, but guests won't have that key.
Common questions
Does Igloohome cost extra? No. The Igloohome integration is included in your Vanio plan.
What if a guest changes their check-in time last-minute? Vanio recomputes the code immediately and sends the new one. As long as you modify the reservation in Vanio, the code updates automatically.
Can guests lock themselves out? No. The code works for the full reservation window, multiple uses, unlimited entries.
What if I forget the master PIN? You manage the master PIN in the Igloohome app. Vanio never changes it.
Can I use Igloohome and Seam at the same time? Yes. Some managers have Igloohome on remote cabins and Seam-managed Yale locks on city apartments. Vanio handles both in one unified interface.
