Mid-stay relocations
When a unit becomes unusable mid-stay, Vanio AI relocates the guest to a comparable unit for the remaining nights and settles the original cleanly — no penalty, no double-counted revenue.
When a guest's unit becomes unusable in the middle of their stay — a broken kitchen, a leak, no heat — the right move is rarely to cancel. It's to get them into a comparable unit for the rest of their trip with as little friction as possible. Vanio AI can now drive that entire relocation for you.
What Vanio AI does
Once a unit is confirmed unusable, Vanio AI handles the move end to end, the way an experienced operator would:
- Recognizes the need to relocate. When maintenance confirms a unit can't be made livable in time, or a guest reports an uninhabitable issue, Vanio AI treats it as a relocation — not a date change and not a dead-end "I've passed this to the team."
- Finds a comparable available unit. Vanio AI looks across your portfolio for a similar unit that's genuinely free for the remaining nights, preferring the same building or area first.
- Executes the move for the remaining nights. Vanio AI books the new unit for the nights that are left and links it to the original stay so it counts as one continuing booking.
- Settles the original cleanly. The original reservation is closed with no penalty, no double-booking, and no double-counted revenue. Your calendar won't fight the move or try to block the new unit.
- Keeps the guest informed the whole way. The guest hears that a comparable unit is arranged and what happens next — no multi-day silence.
Why mid-stay moves need special handling
For Airbnb stays, the platform's built-in "change to a different listing" option stops working once part of the reservation has already passed — it tries to move the entire stay rather than just the remaining nights. Vanio AI uses the correct approach instead: it books the remaining nights on the new unit and settles the original. You don't have to untangle a stuck change request by hand.
Staying in control
Relocations follow the autonomy rules you set on the Settings → Vanio AI page. If a move is within your comfort threshold, Vanio AI carries it out automatically. If it's above your threshold, Vanio AI prepares the full move and hands it to you for one-tap approval instead of acting on its own. Either way, every step is recorded so you can see exactly what happened.
When Vanio AI can't relocate automatically
If nothing comparable is available for the remaining nights, Vanio AI won't improvise. It will tell you a relocation isn't possible from inventory and bring you in to decide on next steps.
